Shannon Steel takes GPS points at a water sample site on the island of San Cristobal, in the Galapagos Islands. Steel collaborated with fellow students Billy Gerhard and Katie Overbey to provide a baseline characterization of water quality on the island. The students received a VIMY award from the Center for Global Initiatives for their work.

Kieran McCarthy Fell plays a traditional Irish flute during her platform session at the Celebration of Undergraduate Research. Fell traveled to Ireland to study the evolution of traditonal music there, and to apply some of those musical influences to her classical flute playing.

Sarah Pederson traveled to the Bolivian Andes to study the personal and political lives of women living in rural agricultural communities in the municipality of Pocoata. She conducted interviews with women to better understand their views on education, female leadership, land rights, maternal/child health, and interpersonal violence prevention in their lives.

Ellen Murray conducted a comparative study of the female experience in high school mathematics classrooms, in both China and the United States. Through classroom observations and interviews, she found that both countries had a majority of female students who responded less positively to mathematics than their male peers.
