Each year, the Carolina Global Photography Competition invites alumni, faculty, staff, and students to submit their photos from around the world. It publishes a selection of these images in a calendar for the new year and in an exhibit at the Fedex Global Education Center, which you can visit between now and March 7, 2014.

From India to Norway to Ecuador, members of the Carolina community gain invaluable knowledge—how to speak a language, prevent the spread of a disease, or diagnose an illness without expensive equipment. UNC alums, students, faculty, and staff serve others twice—both abroad and when they bring their new skills home.

Each image comes with a short description by the photographer. Many are of beautiful visual sights, many are of inspiring people and places, and others were a reminder to the photographer simply to appreciate home.

The competition is sponsored by UNC’s Center for Global Initiatives, International Student and Scholar Services, the Office of Global Relations, and Study Abroad.
