A RAPID Response to Hurricane Matthew

In the months following one of the most destructive hurricanes of the past decade, UNC researchers had to act fast. Using a unique grant from the NSF, they’re testing water quality in Lumberton — one of the hardest-hit places during the storm.

Mejs Hasan

Mejs Hasan is a PhD student in the Department of Geological Sciences within the UNC College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on using satellite data to monitor water resources and sediment/pollutant in rivers, wetlands, and estuaries.

Jenny Hughes

Senior Jenny Hughes is an undergraduate student majoring in environmental science with a minor in marine science. Her research focuses on the effects of hunger on the foraging behavior of mud crabs within the presence of predators that sit higher up in the food chain.
