A RAPID Response to Hurricane Matthew

In the months following one of the most destructive hurricanes of the past decade, UNC researchers had to act fast. Using a unique grant from the NSF, they’re testing water quality in Lumberton — one of the hardest-hit places during the storm.

Elizabeth Olson is an associate professor of geography and global studies in the UNC College of Arts & Sciences. She recently received funding from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) for her research on youth caregivers.

Erika Wise

Erika Wise is an associate professor of geography in the UNC College of Arts & Sciences, head of the Climate & Tree Ring Environmental Science research group, and an affiliate faculty member within the Institute for the Environment. Her research focuses on tree ring patterns and deciphering what they tell us about climate change.
