Marketa Burnett

Senior Marketa Burnett is an undergraduate researcher double-majoring in psychology and African, African American, and diaspora studies within the UNC College of Arts & Sciences. She is also a McNair Scholar and serves on the Campus Health Advisory Board. Her research focuses on the concept of inferiority amongst African-American youth and its effects on educational outcomes.

Mejs Hasan

Mejs Hasan is a PhD student in the Department of Geological Sciences within the UNC College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on using satellite data to monitor water resources and sediment/pollutant in rivers, wetlands, and estuaries.

A Living Scalpel to Fight Brain Cancer

A new technique uses stem cells to deliver anti-cancer drugs to aggressive brain tumors that are, otherwise, often inaccessible. This potentially life-saving treatment was developed by UNC pharmacoengineer Shawn Hingtgen.

Brittney Luc-Harkey

Brittney Luc-Harkey is a doctoral candidate in the Human Movement Science Curriculum in the Department of Allied Health Sciences in the UNC School of Medicine. She works in the Sports Medicine Research Lab, and her research focuses on developing non-surgical interventions that decrease disability and improve long-term outcomes in individuals with joint injury and disease.

This Is Your World on Drugs

Hendrée Jones, director of UNC Horizons, works tirelessly every day to help mothers and children struggling with substance use disorders. In the past five years, her work has expanded beyond Chapel Hill to places like Afghanistan, Brazil, and India.
